Bucks County Playhouse has released a star-studded list of performers and special guests who will help celebrate five-time Tony Award winner Angela Lansbury's legendary career as she becomes the inaugural inductee into the theater's Alumni Hall of Fame.
As previously announced , 21-time Tony Award-winning director/producer Harold Prince will present Lansbury with the honor during the induction ceremony, set to take place on Monday, October 28. Tony winners Tyne Daly (Master Class) and Christine Ebersole (Grey Gardens) along with Tony nominee Hunter Foster (Hands on a Hardbody), Justin Guarini (Romeo and Juliet), and Lauren Molina and Nick Cearley of The Skivvies will give special vocal performances. Tony winners Boyd Gaines (An Enemy of the People) and Alfred Uhry (Driving Miss Daisy) will also attend the ceremony as special guests.
"What better way to induct Angela Lansbury into our Hall of Fame than to surround her with her adoring fellow artists," said Producing Director Jed Bernstein. "Angela Lansbury appeared at the Playhouse in 1952's Affairs of State, years before she stepped foot onto the Broadway stage, making her the perfect first honoree."

Inside Edition interview - October 3, 2013

Justin Guarini of American Idol fame is doing Shakespeare. He's in the new Broadway production of Romeo and Juliet starring Orlando Bloom.

It's Justin’s first gig since those shocking reports that he was living in poverty. Guarini sparked those reports himself when he wrote a blog about making sacrifices to raise his young family.

He wrote, "I am terrified. I am struggling to make each day meet the next. I have spent days skipping meals... To make sure my children and my wife have enough."

He now says his words were misinterpreted.

INSIDE EDITION’s Megan Alexander asked, “You still have really passionate fans who love you and care about you and they want to make sure you are doing ok. So, you're doing ok?”

Guarini said, “I'm doing more than ok.”
Alexander the asked, “You have enough money?”

Guarini replied, “Yeah.”

“Life is ok?,” asked Alexander.

He said, “Life is wonderful for me.”

You'll recall that he was runner-up to Kelly Clarkson on the first season of American Idol back in 2002.

Her singing career is still booming and she recently played herself on the premiere episode of Robin Williams’ new hit TV sitcom, The Crazy Ones.

Guarini carving out a new career for himself on the stage, says he's not jealous of her success.

He said, “I will always have a place in my heart for her."

"Romeo and Juliet" Opens - September 19

PHOTOS

The age thing turns out to be not such a big deal, though you may find yourself tsk-tsking and thinking these oldsters ought to know that broken hearts eventually heal. Really, you two? Poison? I was more concerned by my creeping feeling that Rashad’s Juliet was better matched to Paris (Justin Guarini, the “American Idol” vet, restrained and charismatic), which would have pleased mom and dad to no end.

Romeo and Juliet, Starring Orlando Bloom and Condola Rashad, Begins Broadway Previews Aug. 24

By Adam Hetrick

24 Aug 2013

The Broadway revival of Romeo and Juliet, which invests Shakespeare's drama with a new dynamic, begins performances Aug. 24 at the Richard Rodgers Theatre. The production features Orlando Bloom ("The Lord of the Rings") and Tony Award nominee Condola Rashad (Stick Fly, The Trip to Bountiful) as an interracial pair of young lovers doomed by intolerance.

Helmed by David Leveaux, Romeo and Juliet will officially open Sept. 19. Leveaux has staged Arcadia, Cyrano de Bergerac, Nine, The Glass Menagerie and Jumpers on Broadway, among others.

In addition to Bloom as Romeo and Rashad as Juliet, the cast also features Tony Award nominee Jayne Houdyshell (Follies, Dead Accounts) as the Nurse, Tony Award winner Brent Carver (Kiss of the Spider Woman, Parade) as Friar Laurence, Tony winner Chuck Cooper (The Life; Caroline, or Change) as Lord Capulet, Christian Camargo ("The Hurt Locker," "Twilight," All My Sons) as Mercutio, Justin Guarini (Women on the Verge, "American Idol") as Paris, Roslyn Ruff ( The Piano Lesson, "The Help") as Lady Capulet, Conrad Kemp ("The Girl") as Benvolio, Corey Hawkins as Tybalt and Geoffrey Owens as Prince Escalus.

Completing the company are Donte Bonner, Joe Carroll, Don Guillory, Sheria Irving, Maurice Jones, Eric Loscheider, Spencer Plachy, Michael Rudko, Tracy Sallows, Thomas Schall, Carolyn Michelle Smith and Nance Williamson.

The creative team includes scenic designer Jesse Poleshuck, costume designer Fabio Toblini, lighting designer David Weiner, sound designer David Van Tieghem and hair designer David Brian Brown.

This production marks the first time in 36 years that the play has been produced for Broadway. This version of the classic tale, according to press notes, "will retain Shakespeare’s original language but have a modern setting in which members of the Montague family will be white, and the Capulet family will be black."

According to producers, "In this new production, the members of the Montague household will be white, and the blood relatives of the Capulet family will be black. While race defines the family lineages, the original cause of the ‘ancient quarrel’, passed down by successive generations to their young, has been lost to time. Shakespeare’s dramatization of the original poem sets the two young lovers in a context of prejudice, authoritarian parents, and a never ending cycle of ‘revenge.’ Against this background, the strength of their love changes the world."

Producers have also announced that 100 tickets per performance will be set aside at $20 for purchase by students and educators.

Crazy and Free - an important blog by Justin

Justin Guarini Blogs About New, Humbler Life in the Theater
by BWW News Desk

American Idol veteran Justin Guarini will soon return to Broadway as 'Paris' in the upcoming revival of ROMEO AND JULIET, and according to a recent blog entry, he has come to love his new life in the theatre. Read his full entry below:

There was a time when I would have had a car service drive me from my home to work.

Now I drive myself to the station and take the train.

There was a time when I wouldn't have been concerned about the amazing expense of eating at place like Green Symphony.

Now, I budget. I have spent days skipping meals in order to make sure I have enough. To make sure my children, and my wife have enough.

There was a time when I couldn't walk the street w/o being stopped a hundred times for a photo or a press of flesh.

Now one in a thousand might stop me, or notice. For the rest I might (might) trigger some dim memory, stuffed at the back of long unfired synaptic pathways overgrown with the clutter of social media.

There was a time when I felt separate from the people I worked with. Like I didn't belong. Like I was an interloper. So steeped were they in the arts they chose. I, a talented man without a country, so to speak.

Now I am a proud member of a family of like minded artisans who embrace me without pause, without judgment...well, at least without any more than the usual amount of judgement this business breeds. I am home, and my industry family...ever changing and rearranging...thrives.

There was a time when I put on a brave face, smiled, and laughed to show that I was impervious and unafraid.

Now, I'm unafraid to say that I am terrified. I am struggling to make each day meet the next without breaking down and curling up. Sometimes I envy people who sit at a desk all day (at least you know where your next meal is coming from). I'll smile, and laugh, and joke, and entertain...because sometimes it's the only way to keep the ghosts of regret and loss at bay. I am unafraid to be afraid, and in that fear I gather strength.

There was a time when I could have thrown down cash for a house, and had any number of lovers in and out the door. A flashy car and clothes to match. An ego to trump them all.

Now I rent a home filled with love. I have a wife whom I love and who loves me (me!) and who lifts me up. Children who give me cherubic-lippped kisses before I leave for work and who are the most delicious morsels of joy and peace and prosperity. I drive a family oriented import, that is over mileage. My clothes are a mixture of gift-suite holdovers, things I bought when I had money but no style, and H&M (I LOVE that place...total whore for 'em). My ego, is blessedly humble (still sizable, as I think it should be for everyone...but only seeking to respect self, not to put others down in order to raise the self up)

There was a time when I would have never guessed that I'd be telling you any of this. When I would have bought something I couldn't afford, just to prove that I was ok after everything went wrong. When I would have told you that I was cool, when I wasn't.

Now I tell you all this to reintroduce myself to you. As I am now. To take you with me on this new adventure, to hopefully regain and surpass all that I had before...but this time with a family. This time with grounding, and joy, and peace that comes from knowing that I love myself. Really love myself.

It ain't perfect, buT Loving me is the key to keeping myself from doing the dumb shit we all do in the name of...

It feels like madness to admit any of this...but I'd rather be outright crazy and free, than seemingly sane and a prisoner of convention.

Peace & Blessings,

JG

Justin to be "Street Correspondent" at Cherry Blossom parade in D.C. on April 13

from The Examiner:

What couples nicely with spending a beautiful spring day looking at Cherry Blossoms? How about a pop performance from '90s personality Carmen Electra?

Yes, we're serious. The former "Baywatch" babe is heading to town April 13 to perform at the National Cherry Blossom Festival Parade. She released the song "I Like it Loud" last month and will likely perform that number.

At the parade festivities, Electra will be joined by local artist Mya and "American Idol" alumElliott Yamin, while another "Idol," Justin Guarini of the show's first season, will be the parade's "street correspondent.

Justin included in Philadelphia International Festival of the Arts (PIFA) - March 30

The Academy of Music, Philadelphia
The view before my performance tonight. Absolutely beautiful
Captured March 30, 2013 by Justin Guarini.

The theme for PIFA is time travel and Savion Glover did a little of that with “DANCE SPACE”, a single performance directed by Chaney Chuck Buster Brown and Slyde. The high-concept was just a backdrop to the virtuoso tap star, who without doubt, is on his own time-space continuum. The Academy of Music stage was transformed into a galaxy with Glover aloft in the middle of the proscenium, on a tap-board plateau, dancing among the other stars. Before the dancing starting, a prologue about the Biblical birth of the universe was performed by Broadway star Justin Guarini, narrator CeCeLia Ann Birt and soprano Elisabeth Stevens.

Justin in Concert for Media Theatre Fundraiser

Justin Guarini to Play Media Theatre Concert, 2/23

by BWW News Desk

The Media Theatre's annual Gala, a premiere fundraiser for Delaware County's only professional music theatre, will feature American Idol and Broadway star Justin Guarini in a special one-night-only concert Saturday February 23.

The Media Theatre's Annual Gala is a celebration of its mission of music theatre and music theatre education. The Gala is an opportunity for the community to show support for the theatre's mission.

"Our Annual Gala raises awareness of the importance of music theatre to the surrounding region and community," Artistic Director Jesse Cline stated. "We are the cornerstone of music theatre in Delaware County, providing opportunities for professional performers and musicians, as well as students who have a passion for musicals."

"Justin Guarini was superb in our production of "Chicago" in 2011," Cline continued. "He is truly a wonderful role model for young people who aspire to have a career in music theatre, with his beginnings on "American Idol" and his Broadway career that includes "Women on The Verge" and "American Idiot"."

Guarini's portrayal as Billy Flynn in The Media Theatre's "Chicago" received rave reviews, as did his recent performance in the revitalized Bucks County Playhouse's holiday show "It's A Wonderful Life: A Live Radio Play".

His concert on Saturday February 23 at The Media Theatre will be the highlight of an evening that also includes a pre-and-post-show reception, silent and live auction, and awards ceremony. He will be accompanied by the theatre's resident music director Tom Fosnocht. The concert will be directed by Cline.

All funds raised during the Gala, through sponsorships and ticket sales, support The Media Theatre's mission of music theatre and education. There are show only tickets available as well as a second tier price that includes a Meet & Greet reception with Guarini.

To purchase tickets or for information, call The Media Theatre at 610-891-0100 or visit mediatheatre.org
