NEW HOPE — Justin Guarini will be co-hosting the annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony Sunday in New Hope.
Guarini, who grew up in Doylestown and became a national star with a second place finish on the American Idol TV show, will be at the community event from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
John Danaher of the New Hope Chamber of Commerce and producer of the festivities said Guarini wasn’t contacted until the last minute and agreed to attend.
Danaher, who owns Merging Music in New Hope, contacted Guarini’s father-in-law, who got in touch with the singer.
“It just all came together in about 20 minutes,” Danaher said. “I really give him a lot of credit. He’s always been willing to help out the community.”
Guarini will co-host the event with New Hope Mayor Laurence Keller at Ferry and Main streets. Things get started at 5 p.m. and Santa is expected to arrive at 6, Danaher said.

Located 90 minutes from New York City, the Bucks County Playhouse opened in 1939 on the site of a grist mill dating from the late eighteenth century. Ironically, the structure was at that time in danger of demolition; however playwright Moss Hart and the local community rallied to save the building and re-opened it as a theatrical venue, which quickly became one of the country’s most famous regional theaters, with a veritable who’s who of American theatrical royalty including Kim Hunter, Helen Hayes, Kitty Carlisle, Colleen Dewhurst, Shirley Booth, Lillian Gish, June Lockhart, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, Bert Lahr, Leslie Nielsen and Walter Matthau and remained in continuous operation until December 2010. Thanks to the Bridge Street Foundation, the non-profit family foundation of Kevin and Sherri Daugherty with Tanya Cooper as President, this beloved theatrical landmark was re-opened and celebrated on July 2, 2012, exactly 73 years and day from when it originally opened in 1939.

by BWW News Desk
Ahead of his debut as a composer on NBC’s Smash, Drew Gasparini heads into the studio for the first time to record 17 songs with Broadway’s brightest talents.
Featuring crowd favorites from Joes Pub, NYMF, and the Kennedy Center; the album is described as an eclectic mix of semi-autobiographical numbers and progressive contemporary music theater and is musically produced by Charlie Rosen (13, Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, One Man Two Guvnors).
“Drew brings together some of the coolest people working today, and I am honored to be a part of the musical madness/ferocity he creates,” says Alex Wyse, currently in rehearsals for Bare at New World Stages. Joining Wyse on the album are Jeremy Jordan (Newsies), Jennifer Damiano (Next to Normal), Justin Guarini (American Idol), Caissie Levy (Ghost), Andy Mientus (Smash), Lindsay Mendez (Godspell), F. Michael Haynie (Wicked), Andrew Kober (Hair), Rachel Potter (Addams Family), Mykal Kilgore (The Book of Mormon), Nick Blaemire (Godspell), Alex Brightman (Wicked), and Australia’s Drew Weston (Mary Poppins). Freestyle Dance Academy is proud to announce the establishment of “The Justin Guarini School of Performance” here at Freestyle Dance Academy. The local Doylestown resident and Central Bucks/University of the Arts alum will be teaching the art of performance at FDA beginning on October 1st. After grabbing the nation’s attention as the runner-up on season 1 of American Idol, and appearing in From Justin to Kelly with season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, Justin Guarini has gone on to do a variety of jobs in the entertainment world ranging from Broadway performer, singer, actor and television host. He now wishes to use his vast knowledge and experience to teach the performers of tomorrow.

Justin explains an improv activity
Justin spent the last week with the campers of Camp America Day Camp, as Freestyle Dance Academy was proud to host “Improv Week.” Justin spent time explain to the kids the importance and different ideas behind performance, as well as how it applies to various areas of entertainment. He worked with them on the concept of developing characters, the idea of identifying with a particular character, the concept of using movement to express themselves, improv work and much more. Justin spent Monday through Thursday with the campers in the studio providing instruction and leading them through all kinds of games and activities.

October 12 - Justin to teach Master Class
08/17/12 8:31 PM
Justin Guarini Coming to Haddonfield Theater Arts Center "American Idol" season one finalist Justin Guarini will bring his advice, and famous mop of hair, to a master class in Haddonfield on Oct. 12.
•By Mike Monostra Photos Credit Christa Laska Credit Courtesy of Christa Laska Credit Courtesy of Christa Laska With a new session of classes approaching, Haddonfield Theater Arts Center is bringing in a familiar face to the South Jersey region.
Season one American Idol runner-up Justin Guarini will teach a master class at the center on Oct. 12 from 6 to 8 p.m. His class will be just one of the many highlights in the upcoming fall session that connects budding stars with entertainment pros.
Scott Laska, who opened the center in 2009 with his wife, Christa, has been good friends with Guarini for many years.
“Justin and my husband were part of a choir together,” Christa said. “They recently sang together at an event. Justin was very excited to hear about the school.”
“He's been very busy,” Scott added. “We were talking recently and it lined up that he could come this fall. He did American Idiot on Broadway recently and had been in Atlanta working on a new musical based on a Stephen King story. But he's back in town now.”
Guarini will do vocal exercises with the kids as well as teach a small acting class. The master class will not be limited to just enrolled students either. Anyone is permitted to attend the center's master classes.
“We've had people of all ages who are not enrolled come to our master classes in the past,” said Scott. “So we invite anyone to come and join us.”
Guarini won't be the only guest that to visit Haddonfield Theater Arts Center this fall. Tyrick Jones from the Broadway show Finian's Rainbow will also come by for a lesson. A date for Jones' visit has not been set, but it will likely be sometime in late November or early December.
Entering its third season, the center currently teaches classes for students as young as 4 years old to teens. Classes include instruction in acting, singing, physical stage movement and more. The theater typically brings in about 60 students per session.
At the end of June each year, Haddonfield Theater Arts Center puts on an original performance in which all of their students participate in. The show is performed in conjunction with Maestro Studios.
“Writing an original show is something that our parents love that we do for the kids, and it's a unique experience,” Christa said.
For parents interested in enrolling their students at Haddonfield Theater Arts Center classes this fall, there will be an open house on Sept. 8 and 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There, parents and students will be able to tour the studio and meet instructors at the school in advance of the new classes for the season. Students who enroll by Sept. 9 will receive a free gift, though enrollment is ongoing at the school through April.
